Portland International Airport in Oregon has installed the largest number of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at any airport in the USA, with 42 PowerPost stations located in its long-stay parking lot.
The charging stations have been designed and manufactured by technology developer Telefonixa and were chosen for their Level 1 charging capacity and retractable cord reel. Level 1 charging is ideally suited for long-dwell parking as one hour of charging typically recovers around five miles of range.
Bill Williams, business development manager for Telefonix, electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) division, said, “This installation makes a huge statement. The electric vehicle movement is gaining steam and will continue to do so. Facilities like Portland International Airport are acknowledging this growing community and are sending a signal that they support those who are embracing electric vehicles by installing stations for both airport employees and travelers.”
Vince Granato, chief operations officer for the Port of Portland, the airport operator, said, “We are excited to support our travelers and employees with these new EV charging stations.
“The installation of EV charging stations is one of our many environmental initiatives, which are central to how we do business and serve as good community stewards.”
