In March last year, Groupe ADP launched its Innovation Hub program, which was tasked with meeting the challenges of transformation and competitiveness through an open innovation approach. Armed with an initial €16m (US$20m) budget, the team began to reimagine and develop the airport of tomorrow using Groupe ADP’s airports as ‘real living laboratories’.
At this year’s Passenger Terminal Expo and Conference, Sébastien Couturier, head of Groupe ADP’s innovation department, will discuss the team’s cross-functional approach to innovation using a three-pronged approach: ‘open’, using events such as an Airport Startup Day to drive ideas; ‘connect’, marrying the idea with technology to create solutions, illustrated by Groupe ADP’s Hologarde integrated drone-tracking and defense system; and ‘invest’, establishing an investment program dedicated to strategic operations with startups. Couturier will also discuss the pros and cons of throwing an open innovation challenge.
