German airport operator Fraport has completed the installation of a new state-of-the-art convex video wall to help entertain passengers in Pier B at Frankfurt Airport.
Located between Gates B44 and B48, the LED video wall measures 21m (69ft) by 1.6m (5.2ft) and continuously plays one of seven customized videos, including behind the scenes footage from the airport and highlights of popular holiday destinations. One film, for example, shows the journey of a suitcase from check-in to the aircraft. Others show larger-than-life sequences of vibrant cities such as New York, USA, and Tokyo, Japan.
The Entertainment Gate’s 180º curvature means that passengers can experience the constantly playing video clips quite differently, depending on their viewing angle.
Thomas Kirner, head of Fraport’s service quality department, said, “The video wall innovatively enriches our broad entertainment and information offering for passengers. The spectacular installation creates a genuine ‘wow effect’ and turns the time that travelers spend waiting in the gate area into an experience to write home about.”
