Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey had their busiest day to date on Thursday, August 8, 2019, before breaking their own record the following day.
Friday, August 9’s record-setting day saw 80,596 passengers and crew members screened at TSA checkpoints – the first time that the volume of travelers passed 80,000 at the airport’s checkpoints.
All five of the top busiest days at Newark have occurred this year.
“The passenger volume has increased to record levels, from the parking lots to check-in counters to the security checkpoints, so passengers should allow themselves plenty of time to get to their terminal early to get to their gates,” said Tom Carter, TSA’s federal security director for New Jersey.
