Oakland International Airport in California has announced that local Bay Area residents will have the opportunity to enroll in the TSA PreCheck expedited screening program for three weeks, at a temporary enrollment center in Terminal 2 (T2).
TSA PreCheck operates more than 450 lanes at 167 US airports, and will host a temporary enrollment event at Oakland International from October 31, 2016, through to November 18, 2016.
Bryant L Francis, director of aviation at Port of Oakland, the operator of Oakland International Airport, said, “We are always looking for ways to improve the travel experience for our customers. This is an opportune time for Bay Area residents and other travelers to join the TSA PreCheck program here locally, and we’re pleased to partner with TSA to offer this convenient amenity now.”
“We’d like to see participation not just from those who happen to be traveling during the event dates, but from any of our customers in Oakland and throughout the Bay Area who would love to benefit from the convenience of expedited screening.”
TSA PreCheck is an expedited screening program that enables identified low-risk air travelers to enjoy a smart and more efficient screening experience. For participants in the program, there is no need to remove shoes, light outerwear and belts, and 3-1-1 liquids and laptops can say in their cases.
Applicants must first visit the TSA PreCheck website to enroll before bringing suitable identification with them on the day. The process is completed on-site where fingerprints are captured for a background check and an US$85 fee is collected in exchange for five years of service.
