London Luton Airport (LLA) has contracted software developer Copenhagen Optimization (CopOpt) to introduce its Better Security platform to help improve the efficiency of the airport’s security search area.
Better Airport from CopOpt is a cloud-based planning platform, which enables airports to carry out all operational planning using one common platform. The solution comprises Better Security and Better Forecast, which will help staff to predict the number of passengers using the security area at any given time and ensure that the right number of staff are in place at peak times.
The solution is already in use at other European airports, including Geneva Airport in Switzerland and Dublin Airport in Ireland, where it has helped to reduce wait times, increase staff efficiency and reduce stress levels for staff and passengers.
LLA experienced an 18.5% increase in a passenger numbers in 2016, making it the fastest-growing major London airport. To meet this increased demand, LLA is carrying out the biggest investment in its history to expand annual capacity and upgrade the terminal building. Improvements to the security area are a key part of this transformation, to allow the operations team to manage the increased passenger numbers.
Kasper Hounsgaard, managing partner at CopOpt, said, “We are looking forward to making a real difference to LLA operations, as well as improving the journeys of the many passengers who travel through LLA every day. Better Security takes the current planning system at LLA to a new level, and will offer staff a seamless, integrated platform. Being able to access all modules of Better Airport on laptops, tablets, and smart phones, will make the communication and tracking of airport operations more intuitive and hassle-free.”
Neil Thompson, operations director at LLA, said, “This new planning system marks another milestone in the current transformation of the airport. Passengers will benefit from a smoother journey through the security area thanks to this innovative system. I look forward to working with CopOpt as our redevelopment continues.”
