Alison FitzGerald, chief operating officer (COO) at London City Airport since September 2016, has been confirmed as the airport’s new CEO with immediate effect.
FitzGerald first joined the airport as chief information officer in January 2014 and has been responsible for leading its success in becoming the first major UK airport to fully deploy next-generation CT security scanners for its passengers; implementing the world’s first major digital air traffic control tower; and working with aircraft manufacturers and airlines to enable the introduction of next-generation aircraft into the airport.
In her new role as CEO, FitzGerald will continue to grow the business by working with new and existing airlines to offer new destinations to passengers and build on London City’s excellent punctuality, speed of service and award-winning customer experience.
She commented, “I’m hugely excited to take on the role as CEO and to lead our great team at London City as we enter the next stage of our growth journey. London City delivers one of the best passenger experiences in the UK and I’m committed to building on this success even further.”
FitzGerald will sit on the board of London City Airport and lead the company’s leadership team, which also includes chief financial officer Wilma Allan, chief commercial officer Andrew Hodges and chief people officer Michael Spiers.
Mel Ewell, chair of London City Airport, said, “On behalf of the board, I am delighted to welcome Alison as our new CEO given her strong track record of delivering results at London City. After an extensive search process, we are confident that Alison is the right person to lead the business through its next phase of growth.”
London City will soon complete a major investment program to modernize its departure lounge, which includes more seating, two new stylish dining experiences, duty-free expansion, new retail space, more washrooms and a brand-new look and feel throughout.
