SPP Asia Pacific has been awarded a £47m (US$72.6m) food and beverage (F&B) contract at Hobart International Airport in Tasmania, Australia. The nine-year contract will see SPP run five new restaurants and cafes and become the sole F&B operator at the airport.
The contract was awarded as part of a redevelopment project at Hobart International and SSP is working closely with the airport to create outlets that reflect the culture and heritage of Australia and serve the best of Tasmanian food and drink. SSP is currently operating some temporary outlets at the airport until the terminal is refurbished in 2016.
Chris Rayner, CEO of SSP Asia Pacific, commented, “We are looking forward to working in partnership with Hobart International Airport over the coming years. There is considerable scope for growth and opportunities in Australia’s food travel industry and with our expertise and understanding of the Australian market, we will bring the very best fresh food, drink and service to passengers.”
Rod Parry CEO at HIAPL, which operates the airport, added “We have chosen to work with SSP because we believe they understand and share our vision of Hobart airport being an extension of the visitor experience, and are able to turn that vision into sound and viable plans for the future. During visits to other airports where they operate, including Hong Kong International, we were able to see for ourselves how they approach the business and work with their partners to deliver outstanding food and beverage offers.”
