SSP America, a division of SSP Group, has won a food and beverage contract at Bermuda LF Wade International Airport.
The restaurants developed and operated as part of the contract will be featured in the airport’s new, state-of-the-art passenger terminal building, part of the wider Bermuda Airport Redevelopment Project.
SSP America up will team up with local Bermudian entrepreneurs Dennie O’Connor and Jennifer Turini Ysseldyke to form a joint venture, Bermuda Travel Concessions. The JV’s restaurants have been designed specifically for the new terminal and will reflect Bermuda’s rich culinary landscape and culture as well as the island’s position as a premier holiday destination.
The new line-up includes The Whistling Rum Bar & Grill, a full-service landside bar and grill that will showcase Bermuda’s culinary culture, offering the likes of jerk roasted chicken, fish tacos, fish chowder and warm rum cake. The Whistling Rum Bar will also sell ice-cold beers, international wines and a range of signature cocktails.
Travelers in the US Departures Hold Room will have access to the Rock & Barrel Gastro Bar, a modern full-service gastro bar featuring signature Bermudian cocktails, local and international brews, and freshly prepared, unique island dishes.
For passengers waiting in the International Departures Hold Room, there will be The Heron & the Sea Public House, with a range of drinks and local seafood dishes such as fish chowder, seared scallops, blackened wahoo and shrimp kebabs with Guava BBQ Sauce. Seating expands onto the open-air terrace, offering views of the runway.
Kyle Phillips, SSP America’s senior director, business development, said, “SSP America is delighted to be showcasing the true flavors of Bermuda at the new passenger terminal. With our locally based partners, Dennie O’Connor and Jennifer Ysseldyke, SSP’s new restaurants will ensure passengers will remember their last taste of island life long after departure.”
