Construction and project management consultancy Turner & Townsend has won a contract to provide cost management services for the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai South in the UAE.
The project will see the addition of a renovated immigration hall with 55 control counters; a new baggage handling facility; an expanded departure area with 91 check-in desks and an extra 12 boarding gates; and additional parking and approach roads. The project is part of a wider US$32bn development program to make Al Maktoum one of the largest airports in the world.
Mike Collings, managing director, Middle East, Turner & Townsend, said, “Our experience of delivering complex programs in live airports will help us run the ongoing expansion while minimizing the impact on day-to-day operations.
“We have built a strong reputation working on some of the world’s largest aviation projects, and I’m delighted that we are now building momentum in the rapid growth of Dubai as an international hub for air travel.”
Turner & Townsend has experience of working with major airport programs on every continent, totaling more than 140 projects in 19 countries, and valued at US$35bn.
