Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Austin, Texas, has officially opened its new South Terminal complex after welcoming its inaugural flight by low-cost carrier Allegiant Air.
The 30,000ft2 facility was built as part of a public/private partnership between the airport and operator LoneStar Airport Holdings, who will manage the terminal on a 40-year lease.
The South Terminal features a retro, mid-20th-century interior design, complemented by sleek white canopies on the exterior. The facility was delivered at a cost of US$12m and will add a further three gates to Austin-Bergstrom’s overall capacity, as well as eight check-in counters, TSA checkpoints, checked-baggage screening capabilities, a baggage claim area, and passenger hold room.
