Ronald Reagan National Airport has completed a ‘soft’ opening of its new 14-gate concourse, which will replace the outdoor gates currently serviced by buses from Gate 35X when it officially opens in July 2021.
The 225,000ft2 New Concourse building is fully enclosed in glass and metal panels, complementing the design of Terminal B/C, and work will now focus on completing the interior of the building, including laying terrazzo flooring and installing moving walkways, as well as the build-out of concourse-level holdrooms and ground-level airline support offices.
The new US$393m concourse is designed to provide regional travelers with direct access to planes via jet bridges, spacious waiting and boarding areas, diverse seating options and new concessions, as well as a 14,000ft2 American Airlines Admirals Club lounge with a view of Washington, DC.
The concourse is part of a wider US$1bn investment called Project Journey that will transform the traveler experience inside terminals, at the gates and along the roads. The end result will provide passengers with greater connectivity, more shopping and dining choices and a more pleasant post-security environment.
