Construction firm NCC has been awarded a contract to expand the international terminal at Göteborg Landvetter Airport in Sweden. The Skr760m (US$90m) project will be carried out in partnership with the airport operator Swedavia.
As part of the assignment, NCC will add three aircraft gates and two bus gates to the existing terminal. When finished, the international terminal will cover approximately 110,000ft² and will have the flexibility to separate arriving and departing passengers if required.
NCC will start preparatory work such as moving a number of buildings and groundwork in the autumn of 2016, with construction of the new terminal scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2017. Completion has been set for the beginning of 2020.
Charlotte Ljunggren, airport director at Göteborg Landvetter Airport, said, “Above all, we need to be able to accommodate larger airplanes and manage the flow of passengers coming from non-Schengen countries.”
Henrik Landelius, head of NCC Building Sweden, said, “NCC is highly experienced in dealing with large-scale airport projects and is very familiar with airport operations.”
