Technology firm Selex ES has won a contract to supply a state-of-the-art baggage handling system for Rome Fiumicino Airport in Italy. The multi-sorting baggage handling system (MBHS) will be installed in the boarding area E-F and will include two cross-belt sorters covering a total length of 3,150ft. It will also be capable of sorting up to 6,000 bags per hour.
Selex ES, part of the Finmeccanica Group, has previously supplied baggage sorting systems for Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 5 (T5) of the airport and replaced the legacy system at boarding area D. The company also signed a contract renewal agreement for the ongoing maintenance of all baggage handling systems for another four years.
Construction company Cimolai will be responsible for installing the MBHS with a projected completion date of 2016.
