Crisplant has installed the new automated baggage handling system at Vagar Airport in the Faroe Islands. The project is part of the terminal development program to help cater for current passenger numbers and to prepare the airport for future growth.
The company won the contract to design, manufacture and install the new baggage handling system in Vagar Airport in autumn 2013. Crisplant has since installed a solution based on the Crisplant CrisBelt conveyor system. It features integrated baggage screening in addition to self-check-in, bag drop, oversize baggage handling and the new Baggage Unloader semi-automatic lifting aid.
Developed to assist handlers in transferring arrival bags from a trolley onto a conveying line, the Baggage Unloader is highly space-efficient, operating within a very compact working area. It is one of a range of products that has enabled Crisplant to help reduce the level of injuries to ground handlers. The new terminal went into service in June 2014.
Jákup Sverri Kass, CEO of Vagar Airport, said, “As a modern airport, we constantly look at possibilities to increase productivity and efficiency. By enabling Vagar Airport to ensure efficient baggage handling and an advanced ergonomic working environment for our employees, the Crisplant system will help us achieve and maintain a high level of passenger satisfaction and operator safety.”
