Kansai Airports has announced that Osaka International Airport – also known as Itami Airport – is to re-open in July 2020.
With its central and rooftop areas opened in April 2018, the airport is currently undergoing a major renovation in the south and north departures areas. The exact date of the re-opening will be announced as soon as it is confirmed.
As part of the renovation work, new commercial areas will be set up on the airside. This will make Itami the first airport in Japan to feature a walk-through commercial space in its domestic gate area.
The new commercial area will lead to the Food & Beverage Zone, which will have an open space at its center where passengers will be able to eat, work and relax. A kids’ corner will also be available.
More than 31 stores are set to open airside, offering Kansai-inspired merchandise and experiences exclusive to Itami. Landside, five new stores will cater to the needs of customers, including non-passengers such as meeters and greeters and local residents.
