In a major milestone for the Manchester Airport Transformation Programme, Laing O’Rourke has completed the main build phase of the Terminal Two Extension (known as sectional completion 210a).
The move comes a little over two and half years since Manchester Airport Group signed the contract with Laing O’Rourke and confirms that the project remains fully on course to go live in July 2020.
Paul McNerney, Laing O’Rourke’s director of UK building, said, “The handover is the result of a tremendous effort by our local team and all those involved. It shows what can be achieved when a broad project team works in close collaboration from the outset.
“By engaging with us early, the client made it possible for us to fully utilize our knowledge of modern methods of construction to deliver on time and to a high standard.”
Manchester Airport Group program delivery director Rob Stewart added, “One year on from the completion of Pier One and the West Multi-Story Car Park, the on-time milestone achievement represents the culmination of a huge collaborative effort by the group and our team of experienced delivery partners. Everyone involved should feel extremely proud and the wider community excited about this facility coming online in July.”
Now that it has been handed over, the terminal extension will go through a range of trials and fit-outs before opening to passengers.
