London Luton Airport (LLA) has won the Best Safety Week Initiative category at the UK’s Airport Operators Association (AOA) Awards.
The industry award celebrates the airport that introduced the best initiative during the association’s Airport Safety Week 2019 – Luton’s winning initiative featured the use of a Safety Bus. Initially used during Airport Safety Week each year, the bus is now a permanent fixture at the airport, and tours the campus every fortnight, enabling all staff to learn about important safety procedures.
The award also recognized the creation of the Safety Stack following Airport Safety Week in 2017. This is a collective of 15 organizations based at the airport that collaborate on safety issues. This collaboration culminated in Luton becoming the first airport in the world to standardize ground-handling procedures in line with IATA’s Ground Operations Manual and developing procedures to ensure best practice across all operators.
