Passenger Terminal World is pleased to announce an exclusive partnership with Dubai Airports for Design Challenge 2016, a biennial airport seating design competition. The winner of the competition will have their design showcased by Dubai Airports as part of its upcoming proof of concept program in Concourse D at Dubai International Airport. Entrants will need to design their seating to fit an area measuring 15 x 15m and power connections will be available.
Bryan Thompson, senior vice president of development at Dubai Airports, will also be taking part on the judging panel for the competition alongside high profile figures from international airports and leading seating design companies around the world.
“We are delighted to be working with Dubai Airports on Design Challenge 2016,” said Helen Norman, editor of Passenger Terminal World magazine. “This is a great competition and the proof of concept prize will only enhance the exposure that the winner will get from entering this biennial competition.”
Entry to Design Challenge 2016 is free. To apply entrants should provide a 250-word outline of their seating design, highlighting factors such as aesthetics, features, cost, durability and environmental impact. Information should also be included on the inspiration behind the design and how the seating could be manufactured and installed in the terminal.
Entrants must also provide 4-5 high resolution images (300dpi, 20x20cm) of their design – renderings and drawings are fine, as well as photographs of prototypes.
The deadline for entries is Friday, April 1, 2016. Our panel of judges will then receive all the entries and mark them according to the above factors. The winner will be announced in the June issue of Passenger Terminal World magazine.
