Elenium Automation and Avalon Airport in Victoria, Australia, have joined forces to provide a technology solution to improve passenger experience and operational efficiency within the airport.
Avalon currently operates passenger flights for Jetstar, AirAsia and, most recently, Citilink. Driven by airline and passenger demand, the airport is now investing in self-service and automation technology in the terminal to replace manual check-in desks, in a bid to boost efficiency, increase terminal capacity potential and improve customer experience.
Avalon Airport is the first airport in Australia to adopt Elenium’s full suite of automation technologies, including its self-service check-in kiosks, bag-drop technology, CUSS (common user self service) platform and ‘Flight Deck’ software, which will enable Avalon’s operational team to have an overview of events across its entire kiosk and bag-drop portfolio, resolving issues before they occur.
Avalon Airport CEO Justin Giddings said, “We are focused on automation and technical innovation to give airlines and their passengers a fast, seamless and relaxed journey through the airport. Elenium offers Avalon leading technology solutions and an end-to-end source of automation leadership and support. We were also the first international terminal in the country to install a CT scanner. It’s important to us that we continue using state-of-the-art technologies in order to enhance our customer experience.”
Elenium will provide Avalon with 16 common use, self-service kiosks that offer a fast and user-friendly check-in process and can be moved around the airport for use by different airlines as needed. The kiosks will also feature Elenium’s unique retractable keyboard that enables the kiosks to be transformed into an agent terminal.
The company will also deliver eight hybrid bag drops that have the flexibility to operate in either full self-service or agent-assisted mode. Elenium’s bag drop features cameras that automatically zoom and focus to find the bag tag barcode.
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Avalon Airport and demonstrating that significant efficiency and passenger experience gains can be achieved in airports of all sizes,” said Elenium Automation CEO and co-founder Aaron Hornlimann.
