Dubai International Airport has inaugurated a new border control post as part of a transformation program which aims to offer passengers a state-of-the art border control experience, as well as improve the immigration security process.
The airport has installed 122 SmartGates across all three terminals, in partnership with Vision Box. These automated gates are able to speed up passenger clearance at the borders, by way of self-service with multi-biometric verification using either passports, Emirates ID or SmartGate cards as authentication.
Brigadier General Talal Al Shanqiti, assistant director general for Ports Affairs at the GDRFA in Dubai, said “Passport control is a critical process, so maintaining a high level of security there is our top priority. This new system helps us strike a balance between achieving that objective, while also ensuring a better experience for the passengers through speed and efficiency.”
Vision-Box CEO Miguel Leitmann said, “It brings together state-of-the-art border security technology, the most modern human-machine interaction and a magnificent design. We are happy to provide such a top-notch experience for passengers travelling through Dubai and to be trusted by GDRFA and Emaratech for this cutting-edge project.”
The installation of self-service border control in Dubai’s arrivals coincided with the UAE’s Month of Innovation and follows the introduction of SmartGates at departures and in Dubai Al Maktoum International Airport in 2017.
