Athens International Airport in Greece has joined forces with Singapore Airlines and Aegean Airlines to promote its potential as a transfer hub for passengers traveling to the Asia/Pacific and Africa regions from the Balkans and Central and Eastern Europe.
The campaign has been coined the ‘TAG Athens’ project and uses the slogan: “Athens connects you to the world, TAG Athens as an intermediate point on your route.” The airport hopes that the campaign will be adopted by other airlines to raise the awareness of the cost benefits for passengers transiting through the airport. In the case of Singapore Airlines, the respective flows eastwards correspond to more than 300,000 annual passengers alone.
Ioanna Papadopoulou, director, communications and marketing for Athens International Airport, said, “Following meticulous identification of the existing aviation opportunities, we decided to invite our partners and their passengers to ‘tag’ Athens as their intermediate point.
“Having examined the existing traffic potentials from specific regions, we are now launching this effort together with our esteemed airline partners, Singapore Airlines and Aegean Airlines. Expressing our warmest thanks to our partners for keenly embracing this common aspiration, we invite passengers to use the existing networking opportunities and tag Athens as an intermediate point for their air travels.”
