Albania has extended the deadline for submitting bids for a concession contract for the construction, operation and maintenance of an international airport in the southwestern port city of Vlora.
The infrastructure ministry extended the deadline from March 12 to March 30, although it did not give a reason for its decision.
The proposed term of the concession agreement will be 35 years under a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model, according to a December 2019 announcement from infrastructure minister Belinda Balluku.
In 2019, the Albanian government failed to conclude negotiations with a Turkish consortium for the construction of Vlora airport, an investment estimated at €100m (US$112.3m).
At present, Tirana International Airport Mother Teresa is Albania’s only operational airport.
