Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, India, has launched its new indoor navigation app for Terminal 2 (T2) that leverages location based smartphone technology to help create an interactive experience for passengers.
The ‘Mumbai T2 App’ includes an interactive walkthrough experience where passengers can locate any outlet in the terminal without leaving their seat. The app can then be used as a navigation guide, helping travelers locate the selected store. The app can also be used to provide passengers with up to date flight information through its push notification system.
The T2 app platform combines IndoorAtlas positioning software for smartphones with iBeacon technologies to create magnetically modeled maps, which provide location-based information using wi-fi connections or 3G/4G.
Rajeev Jain, CEO, Mumbai International Airport Limited, the airport operator, said, “We constantly endeavor to provide world-class facilities at T2, and always strive to make it as easy as possible for air travelers to discover them. With the Mumbai T2 app, travelers can design their own customized experiential tour with a single click. Moreover as a ‘silent’ terminal, the app will be a very handy tool for passengers to keep track of their flight schedule through constant notifications.”
The Mumbai T2 App is compatible with Apple and Android phones and tablets, and can be downloaded for free from the iOS App Store and Google Play Store. The app, developed by Next Byte Wave Technologies, connects directly to the flight information system in the airport to provide updates on flight status and changes in departure time through a notification system starting a day prior to the flight.
