Restaurateur SSP Group has won an eight-year contract to open 10 units at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Airport in Spain.
The contract, which is valued at €17m (US$19.7m) a year, will see the arrival of a number of local and international brands, including Starbucks, SOHO Coffee Co, Burger King, O’Learys Bar & Restaurant and Spanish charcuterie specialist Enrique Tomás. SSP will be taking over existing sites as well as opening new units.
Blanca Ripoll, director general, SSP Spain, said, “We are delighted to have secured these units in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Airport. This new contract win reaffirms SSP’s position as a leading restaurant operator in the travel market in the Canary Islands with a presence in Tenerife, Lanzarote and Las Palmas.
“The hospitality industry is currently very buoyant in Spain. Branded restaurant chains are, in particular, strong generators of wealth and employment in the country.”
Enrique Tomás and O´Learys Bar & Restaurant will be located in the food court area. There will be two SOHO Coffee Co units, one in the north check-in area and the other in the south pier. These are set to open later this year and into 2019. Two Burger King units (in the south and north piers) and a Starbucks (located airside near the boarding gates) are already trading.
Catalan businessman Enrique Tomás began his business with a mission to offer fine quality Iberian hams and sausages. His brand currently has three concepts – a retail store, a tasting bar and a premium bar concept called Origins. It currently has a presence at 81 locations across the world, including an outlet at Madrid Airport.
