Restaurateur SSP has opened new food and beverage (F&B) concept The Camden Bar & Kitchen at London Stansted Airport in the UK.
Extending across two floors and with seating for 350, the 700m² (7,500ft²) restaurant features a full service premium bar on the upper level and a bar and deli for grab-and-go convenience on the lower level.
The new restaurant draws inspiration from the London borough of Camden and its famous market stalls. The lower level bar has an industrial feel and colorful flamboyance throughout.
A striking green steel central stairway draws the eye, connecting the ‘engine room’ kitchen and the restaurant upstairs. To reflect London’s dynamic artistic community, The Camden Bar & Kitchen has worked with a group of post graduate students from St Martin’s College to create the mural of London’s renowned street food scene.
The Camden Bar & Kitchen menu features traditional British classics such as fish and chips, and steak, egg and chips, as well as double stacker burgers and Thai and Indian influenced street food. It also features a variety of Camden street food vendors in rotation, giving them a prominent slot on the menu. Starting with Baba G’s, the menu offers spice-filled treats including the Crazy Lamb Jalfrezi Burger.
Local beers including Camden Hells Lager and Camden Pale Ale from Camden Town Brewery are also on offer, alongside other premium beers, wines and a selection of cocktails.
Another unique feature in The Camden Bar & Kitchen is the ‘Glow Zone’, a unique power charging zone within the bar which houses LED light pads as well as wireless charging points. These pads illuminate when customers charge their phones, creating an eye-catching effect.
Simon Smith, CEO of SSP UK and Ireland, said, “The Camden Bar & Kitchen transforms one of the largest and most prominent spaces in the airside departure lounge into a modern eclectic restaurant, reflecting the spirit of contemporary London and its most famous food market.”
Ben Green, retail director for London Stansted Airport, said, “This fantastic new concept recreates the buzz and flavors of London’s most iconic food market and we are extremely proud to offer millions of passengers the chance to enjoy what we’re sure will prove to be an extremely popular destination before taking to the sky from Stansted.”
