Singapore Changi Airport has picked up the coveted Airport of the Year Award at the 2016 Skytrax World Airport Awards, which were announced on March 16 at Passenger Terminal Expo in Cologne, Germany. This is the sixth time Changi has triumphed in this award.
Lee Seow Hiang, CEO of Changi Airport said, “This is a significant achievement for Changi Airport and a clear affirmation that we continue to hit the right notes in our pursuit of service excellence. We do not take this recognition for granted; it is the extraordinary effort and commitment of the entire airport community that drives Changi’s success. We thank our passengers and partners alike for their continued support and confidence in us.”
The awards ceremony, which attracted CEOs and directors from airports around the world, also saw Incheon International Airport renew its five-star airport rating – this rating is awarded to airports achieving the highest, overall quality performance in areas such as customer service, security, immigration, retail and F&B.
According to CEO of the Skytrax awards, Edward Plaisted, 2016 represents a significant year for the awards: “These have been our biggest awards yet. We have received more than 13.2 million completed passenger surveys and over 550 airports are covered in the survey – these figures beat all figures from previous years,” he said.
Other winners included Zurich for Best Security Processing, Hong Kong International for Best Immigration Service, and London Heathrow for Best Shopping. In addition to the Airport of the Year Award, Changi also picked up the Best Leisure Amenities award. Munich International triumphed in the Best Airport in Europe award and Heathrow Terminal 5 picked up the World’s Best Airport Terminal accolade.
Changi beat a number of other world leading airports in the race to become Skytrax’s Airport of the Year. Other finalists included Hamad, Hong Kong, Incheon, Zurich and Heathrow.
The Skytrax World Airport Awards are voted by customers in the largest, annual global airport customer satisfaction survey. The survey and awards process is independent and guaranteed free of any airport influence or interference in final results.
