Sacramento International Airport has recorded two years of consecutive month-on-month passenger growth as of March 2016, posting increases of 8.7% in January, 8.8% in February and 8.2% in March over the same months in 2015.
The airport handled 714,874 passengers in January 2016 compared with 657,900 in 2015, 1,402,734 passengers in February 2016 compared with 1,288,998 in 2015, and 2,223,631 in March 2016 compared with 2,054,938 in 2015. It served a total of 9.6 million passengers in 2015 and expects to surpass the 10 million passenger milestone by the end of 2016.
“We are happy to see this upward trend and we continue to reach out to new and existing air carriers to add service,” said director of airports John Wheat. “None of this growth would be possible without the continued support of our passengers.”
According to the airport, the increase in passenger traffic is attributed to improvements in the regional economy and efforts to improve airport efficiency. It has also launched new and expanded flight schedules in time for the summer travel season.
