Budapest Airport in Hungary is to add an 8,000m2 hotel with a direct connection to the terminal, in 2025.
Developed by Hungarian commercial real estate developer Wing, construction on the Tribe Hotel has already begun. The new hotel will offer 167 rooms for business and leisure travelers, as well as a 150-seat conference room, two meeting rooms, a gym and a sky bar for an outstanding gastronomic experience with fantastic views.
The Tribe brand has been designed to be at the forefront of stylish, functional hotels, at affordable prices. With the brand’s community amenities and contemporary design concept, the hotel’s expanded services will be tailored primarily to business and transfer travelers, with a focus on guest comfort. The spacious restaurant and lounge area will accommodate 140 people and the terrace will seat 60.
Budapest Airport’s long-term development plans include not only the expansion of the passenger terminal but also the related infrastructure and services. The airport operator developed the plans in such a way that another hotel building could be added, next to the first. The area to be used for the hotel expansion is integrated into the development of the planned multi-story parking garage, the central intermodal hub and the airport city, with additional office buildings. Designed by Aspectus Architect, the new hotel has the same characteristic façade as the airport’s Ibis Styles hotel, visually connecting the two buildings. Tribe will have a bold, dynamic interior design concept created by Este’r Partners. The hotel is being designed with sustainability in mind, and is planned to be one of the first Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) certified hotels in Hungary.
Noah Steinberg, president and CEO of Wing, commented, “The Ibis Styles Budapest Airport Hotel, developed by our group, has been operating at almost full capacity since its opening, with excellent guest ratings. Based on existing guest demand and the success achieved, Tribe will arrive in 2025. This will be the brand’s second unit in Hungary, alongside the hotel in the mixed-use Liberty building that we also developed. The existing Ibis Styles and the new Tribe will be directly connected, and the new complex will be an important milestone in the life of the airport; the development will further expand the airport infrastructure. The number of available rooms will more than double and the additional high-quality services will enable the airport to meet the needs of its guests at a higher level.”
René Droese, chief development officer at Budapest Airport, said, “For Budapest Airport, it is of utmost importance to provide passengers with quality services. To this end, we are continuously developing the airport in cooperation with our partners and through joint thinking. There is an increasing need to expand services and capacities in and around the airport as passenger traffic increases; we were, therefore, delighted to welcome the plan to build a new hotel, which fits in well with our Terminal 3 project and forms part of our Airport City development. We are confident that the Tribe will offer excellent services to both business and leisure travelers.”
Frank Reul, vice president of development at hotel operator Accor Eastern Europe, added, “In addition to its rich historical heritage, Budapest is a significant regional business center. As the continuous success of the Ibis Styles Budapest Airport Hotel shows, the capital is increasingly popular with leisure and corporate travelers as well. With a second property built in cooperation with Budapest Airport, we strengthen Accor’s presence in a strategic destination of Central and Eastern Europe. It is a unique opportunity to expand the portfolio of one of our fastest-growing brands, Tribe, in Hungary as well.”
