Istanbul Airport has been given a 5-Star Airport award by Skytrax, making it one of only two airports in the world to be certified with both this and a 5-Star Covid-19 rating.
International air transport research agency Skytrax has been providing quality audits, star grading and quality comparison services for airports and airlines since 1989. Its auditors assessed each point of contact that affects the departing passenger, transfer passenger and arriving passenger experience, such as parking areas, public transport, website, mobile application, security/passport control, basic passenger services, shops, food and beverage areas, and baggage claim. They also looked at the service offered at these various points as well as service accessibility and passenger comfort. In total, 800 criteria were assessed in a detailed manner. In addition, the measures taken against the pandemic were considered in the quality inspection.
CEO of Skytrax Edward Plaisted said, “We are pleased that Istanbul has joined the prestigious 5-Star Airports. This is a well-deserved recognition that the high standards provided at İGA Airports are also presented here. Istanbul Airport is an outstanding engineering achievement, with its 90 million passenger capacity terminal completed in three-and-a-half years. This grand airport has an impressive diversity of passenger facilities, with ease of accessibility to different terminal areas.”
