Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, has been appointed to Manchester Airports Group’s (MAG) Engineering, Project Management and Design Services framework (EPMDS), to provide airport advisory services.
MAG comprises three airports – Manchester, East Midlands and London Stansted – and is the largest UK-owned airport operator, with 60 million passengers passing through its sites last year. Atkins says it will be supporting MAG across all three of its airports and is one of three consultancies who have been awarded a place on the airport advisory services framework lots.
The company says it will provide support in areas such as capacity planning and modeling, development management, asset management, operations and maintenance, business advice and operation readiness.
Dan Jones, client director at Atkins, said, “We look forward to supporting MAG across the range of airport advisory services, working with each site to enhance passenger experience and support economic growth across each region – most notably in the North as transport infrastructure continues to play an integral role in the redistribution of the UK’s economy.
“The EPMDS framework is a key enabler for the transformative programs being undertaken across the Manchester Airports Group and we’re excited to work closely with the group to help realize their vision.”
MAG noted that its Manchester Airport Transformation Program will enhance passenger experience and see the site become an international gateway for the North, thanks to improved transportation links and a terminal expansion. Meanwhile, East Midlands – the UK’s busiest cargo airport, handling more than 328,000 tons of cargo each year – is expanding its cargo and logistics facilities in response to growing demand.
Atkins already delivers a range of professional services in the aviation sector, with a portfolio that includes Heathrow, Birmingham, Gatwick, Dubai International, New Orleans International, Ireland West and Abu Dhabi Airport.
