Following hot on the heels of a number of airport modernization projects across the country, Airports Authority India has announced a phased update program for Dehradun Airport.
The first phase of development work includes construction of a domestic terminal building along with parking facilities and other utility buildings.
With an area of 42,776m2 , the terminal will be able to handle 1,800 passengers during peak hours, thereby expanding the airport’s current capacity eightfold. The building will have a concourse, check-in area, security hold and arrival lounge on the ground floor, with security hold on the first floor and office space on a mezzanine floor.
The terminal will be equipped with 36 check-in counters, featuring self-check-in kiosks in addition to an in-line baggage screening facility. AAI also notes that the building will be geared toward sustainability; for example, a double-curved roof will aid in rainwater harvesting.
