Real estate developer Edgemoor Infrastructure has revealed the preliminary design plans for the new terminal at Kansas City International Airport in Missouri. This follows Edgemoor’s appointment as the lead developer responsible for designing, building and financing the new terminal in late September.
The redeveloped facility will cover approximately 750,000ft² and will include 35 gates with the flexibility to expand to 42 gates at a later date. The project will also provide at least 6,500 parking spaces and will utilize local construction workers where possible.
The initial design renderings, created by architects Skidmore, Ownings & Merrill (SOM), portray a large glass façade surrounding the brightly lit terminal and concourses, with a two-story pick-up and drop-off area and large water fountain that acts as the terminal centerpiece.
Geoffrey Striker, managing director, Edgemoor, said, “It has been great to collaborate with the aviation department, city leaders, and the airlines to build on the great work that was done through the exhibit process.
“We are excited to share our early concept and vision for the new Kansas City Airport single terminal – one that preserves modern convenience, reflects the heritage and values of Kansas City, and addresses the forward-thinking needs of a world-class city. This is just the beginning of the design process.”
