Smiths Detection, a supplier and manufacturer of threat detection and screening technologies, has been contracted to supply 25 explosive detection hold baggage screening systems to Munich Airport in Germany.
The HI-SCAN 10080 XCT advanced scanners combine high-resolution x-ray technology, computed tomography (CT) and advanced detection algorithms, to detect the explosives threats specified by the new standard – ECAC Standard 3. The scanners also offer a fast belt speed and large rectangular tunnel, providing a continuously high throughput of up to 1,800 bags per hour.
Smiths Detection will install the first three scanners by the end of this year. The remaining installations will be progressively rolled out between 2018 and 2021. A service agreement is also included.
Tony Tielen, vice president EMEA for Smiths Detection, said, “We welcome the opportunity to help airports in upgrading to ECAC Standard 3. It is a major step but the rewards are significant in terms of higher levels of security and operational efficiency. The new equipment will be seamlessly integrated into Munich Airport’s existing infrastructure to ensure smooth ongoing service during the upgrade.”
