Shared use airport lounge supplier Airport Dimensions has announced the acquisition of Onground Hospitality and its sleep lounge brand, Sleep ’n Fly. The company says this move will further enhance the passenger experience through its lounge spaces, while expanding its presence in the Middle East, having previously secured the contract for the Abu Dhabi Midfield Terminal in 2019.
In 2013, Onground opened the world’s first airport sleep lounge to meet the requirements of transit travelers in need of a power nap or an overnight break. Its concept offers sleep pods and cabins that operate on a pay-by-the-hour basis. The lounges are currently available at Terminals 1 and 3 (pictured below) at Dubai International Airport, with sleep pods also located within regular third-party lounges under a separate pod-in-lounge concept. Onground hopes the first lounges outside the UAE will be launched in the near future at another major hub.
Oliver Schulz, managing director at Onground, commented, “We’re delighted to be joining the Airport Dimensions family. We’ve had an established relationship with Collinson (Airport Dimensions’ parent company) since 2017, and this latest deal represents the natural evolution of our growing partnership.”
Errol McGlothan, managing director at Airport Dimensions, added, “We know passengers want more choice and exciting new products at the airport, and this, our first ‘non-traditional’ lounge concept, enables us to explore a wider range of experiences for our customers.”
