London Luton Airport in the UK has announced it is to host an appointment-only, drive-through testing center to control the spread of COVID-19.
The airport opened the site this week and is using one of its mid-stay parking lots which is perhaps ironically only available due to the drop in passenger traffic! The facility is being operated by UK military personnel.
Alberto Martin, CEO of London Luton Airport, said, “The desire from our teams and partners to support those in greatest need during these extraordinary times fills me with admiration for our people and wider airport community. With their backing and the support of our shareholders, we will do all we can to support both our local community, and the wider national effort in tackling the pandemic.”
Luton airport is also in the process of ‘adapting its facilities’ to assist the national coronavirus response, with more information available soon.
Meanwhile, the London satellite airport is supporting repatriation, medical and military flights and cargo flights delivering vital supplies.
