Smiths Detection has launched an ultraviolet light kit to destroy microorganisms in baggage trays.
Protecting passengers and staff from contagious diseases as they pass through airport security checkpoints, the kits automatically disinfect baggage trays as they are transported from the reclaim area back to the divest station.
The specially designed casing and other safety measures mean staff and passengers are exposed to no risk and the kit can be installed quickly and easily into existing tray-handling systems.
The technology has been used to disinfect surfaces in industries with high hygiene requirements including the food and health sectors.
Richard Thompson, global director, aviation, Smiths Detection, said, “UVC lights are a practical, straightforward way that airports can help reduce the transmission of any bacteria or virus that might be on the surface of its trays now and in the long-term.”
