Western Australia’s NRW Holdings has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary NRW Contracting has been awarded an airport upgrade contract with BHP at its Olympic Dam project at Roxby Downs, South Australia.
The scope of the works includes two separable portions. The first of these, the landside works, will include concrete works, structural steel and modular structures and all services required for the upgrade of the existing terminal building and the surrounding infrastructure.
The second portion, airside works, covers bulk earthworks, pavement construction and drainage works for the construction of a new 1,860m-long (6,102ft) runway and refurbishment of the existing taxiway and extension of the apron areas.
The contract is worth A$48m (US$27m) and is expected to have a duration of approximately 37 weeks, with works commencing late March 2020. The project will have an expected peak workforce of approximately 140 (including subcontractors).
Olympic Dam Airport is operated by mining group BHP. Alliance Airlines operate a public transportation service between Olympic Dam and Adelaide.
