When Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) becomes operational at the end of October 2020, Schönefeld Airport will become Terminal 5 of the new airport, requiring changes to names across the campus.
In order to avoid duplicate names of terminal sections, gates and parking lots at BER, the building and parking lot infrastructure of Schönefeld Airport will already be renamed for the summer flight schedule. The changeover will take place overnight from March 30 to 31, 2020.
“With the renaming of the infrastructure at Schönefeld Airport, we’re taking another step toward Berlin Brandenburg,” said Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, chief executive officer of airport operator Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg.
“The closer we get to the start of operations at the new airport, the more important it is that we make information about the orientation available to our passengers, as well as our employees and process partners. We have therefore decided to carry out the renaming as early as the summer 2020 flight schedule and in time for the beginning of the trial operation.”
The existing current terminal sections A, B, C, D will be renamed K, L, M, Q. Passengers traveling with hand luggage and already in possession of a boarding pass ,can use terminal section Q (for Quick Security Check). From there, they will be able to reach all departure gates.
In addition, the multi-story parking lot and car parking areas will be given a new name. The former numbering system will be joined by the number 5 in front of the previous designated number.
Travelers checking in online today may already see the new designated names.
