Fredericton International Airport in New Brunswick, Canada, has announced Chess Piece Patisserie & Café as the food service provider in the new, expanded terminal when it opens in 2021.
Chess Piece currently operates two locations in downtown Fredericton, and is well-known for its coffee, desserts, and made-from-scratch lunch selections. The new airport location will feature all of these along with quick-serve and family-friendly items for travelers on the go as well as a gift shop featuring items made by local artisans.
“Chess Piece is a great local company with a reputation for excellence, and we look forward to welcoming (Chess Piece co-owner) Patti Hollenberg and her team to the airport family,” said Johanne Gallant, president and CEO of the Fredericton International Airport Authority.
The new terminal is expected to be complete in spring 2021. It will feature food service inside the departures lounge, as well as a café in the arrivals area which will be accessible to travelers and the public.
Construction began in 2019 on a two-year, US$32m terminal expansion and renovation at Fredericton International Airport. The new terminal will be 50% larger, as well as featuring an improved passenger flow and permanent, more efficient installation of security screening lines.
