The on-schedule completion of the shell of the new Federal Police building at Berlin Brandenburg Airport has been marked with a topping-out ceremony.
The building is being constructed by general contractor Goldbeck Nordost on behalf of operator Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg for the Federal Police. Completion is scheduled for early summer 2020. To ensure a smooth transition from the existing airports to Brandenburg, the building will be taken over and put into operation soon after completion, in time for the airport opening on October 31, 2020.
“Safe and reliable flight operations always require the interaction of many partners and processes. The Federal Police and its security service providers play a particularly important role in our service quality. The Federal Police building, like the neighboring terminal T2, is being built by a general contractor. We have made faster progress there than planned and were able to complete the shell at the end of last year.”
The building is located in the public area of the airport campus and offers direct access to terminals T1 and T2. It is easy to reach thanks to connections to the multistory car park, railway station and bus stop. The net floor area is 2,600m² (28,000ft²) over three floors. It will be used by around 400 Federal Police employees working in a multishift operation.
On the ground floor, there will be a reception area with a guard’s office and processing rooms for searches and interrogations. The building will also feature 40 office workspaces as well as changing rooms, social areas and training. The investment costs amount to around €8m (US$8.9m).
