The world’s leading international airport conference has revealed its full program for the 2020 event. Passenger Terminal CONFERENCE will be held March 31 through April 2* in Paris Expo Porte de Versailles in Paris, France and will once again provide an exceptional opportunity to see over 400 industry leaders share their innovations, knowledge and insights through a comprehensive and diverse range of conferences and panel discussions.
The CONFERENCE begins with the opening address from Augustin de Romanet, chief executive officer of Groupe ADP, the host airport authority for this year’s show. Speakers from the influential Groupe ADP are scattered throughout the program, across all nine streams. For example, Bastien Bernard, airport operations director, Groupe ADP, will present Passengers flows at airports: big data and operational performance on Day – 1 as part of the Technovation: Innovation, Transformation & PAX Journey stream; Caroline Blanchet, director of strategic marketing, Groupe ADP, will present Hospitality strategy: reshaping passengers’ experience in departure lounges on Day 1, as part of the Customer Service & Passenger Experience stream; and technical director Eric Coupaye and senior manager Patrick Rallett will explain why Groupe ADP has chosen to maintain its terminals, even the oldest ones, and invest to bring them back to the same level as more recent air terminals, on Day 3, as part of the Facilities Maintenance & Management stream.
Highlights from the first day of the Aviation Security, Border Control and Facilitation stream include Steven Rotolo, chief of counter-terrorism and Edward Cetnar, superintendent of police/director of public safety, both from The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey Police Department. The Port Authority is the only agency to have suffered four terrorist attacks in the USA: the 1975 TWA bombing at LaGuardia Airport, 1993 WTC Bombing, 9/11 WTC attack and the 2017 Bus Terminal suicide bombing attack. The Department has evolved into one of the world’s best counter-terrorism police departments through training and first-of-its-kind technology, which it now applies to help protect three of the top five terrorist-targeted airports in the USA: JFK, LaGuardia and Newark Liberty International Airport.
On Day 3, as part of the Safety, Crisis & Disaster Management stream, listen to Lyn Fowler, baggage transformation manager, Heathrow Airport and Chris Penny, senior people and change consultant (operations consulting) at Arup, talk about a simple process to improve safety in complex operational areas. Safety issues are often systemic in nature, yet many interventions focus on a single symptom. This is often due to the complex nature of operational areas, where multiple stakeholders interact around a single function. The speakers will describe the development of a local safety framework, which created a common language to coordinate activities, and lessons learned.
A panel discussion on Day 2 will take up the important topic on increasing capacity within an existing terminal. This panel, as part of the Airport Design, Planning & Development stream, talks about the increase of passengers without expansion. At Los Angeles International Airport Terminal 1, Southwest Airlines has partnered with LAWA to modify and renovate their existing facilities to address increased passenger levels while providing an authentic LA experience – within the existing Terminal 1 footprint. This panel will share lessons learned from this multi-year project, with a focus on how impacts to ongoing operations and passenger experience were managed, while resolving facility capacity and passenger amenity needs. Stephen Sisneros, managing director – airport affairs, Southwest Airlines; Don Ostler, program manager, Southwest Airlines; and Matthew Ross, senior vice president, AvAirPros will present, with Tim Hudson, principal of Gensler, moderating the discussion.
In keeping airport terminals the same size, airports do a lot for sustainability. Tackling climate change is a task that governments and businesses around the globe are being challenged to address. The aviation sector has been singled out as potentially contributing more to carbon emissions than reducing them, and the onus is on airport owners, operators and designers to work together to achieve sustainability targets – fast. Join airport representatives from Heathrow and Bangalore International in a panel discussion on Day 1 as they discuss how sustainable aviation design is possible within a range of scales and localities. Gain insights into how to improve resource efficiency, reduce embodied and operational carbon, and create better health and well-being outcomes for all.
