Operator Lithuanian Airports is looking for contractors to install a new baggage management system, a baggage screening system, and self-service baggage drop-off stations at Vilnius Airport.
The bulk of the work will take place at the new departures terminal, which is scheduled to open at the end of 2022. The new baggage management system will cover a belt conveyor system and a four-level checked-in baggage screening system, including the newest x-ray machines with an advanced explosives detection system (EDS).
An additional x-ray machine will be installed, for the screening of out-of-gauge baggage. The new system will be certified by European institutions and will meet the international ECAC Standard 3 for the screening of checked baggage.
“During the last five years the number of passengers has grown by nearly 50% at Vilnius Airport. We expect to maintain a consistent annual growth in the future, therefore adequate baggage management is gaining importance and the renewed baggage systems will help increase airport capacity, as well as ensuring that the equipment at the new terminal is compliant with all international standards”, said head of Vilnius Airport Dainius Čiuplys.
In addition, Lithuanian Airports will acquire an EDS and an x-ray machine for the screening of out-of-gauge baggage at Kaunas Airport, where the air gates are also to undergo renovation, as the passenger terminal is being expanded.
