A consortium formed by TAV Airports and VPE Capital has begun discussions regarding the possible acquisition of Almaty International Airport in Kazakhstan.
Almaty is the biggest airport in Central Asia, welcoming six million passengers in 2018, more than half of them from overseas. Kazakhstan, the biggest landlocked country in the world with 2.7 million square kilometers, is the driver of economic growth in the region, and represents 60% of Central Asia’s GDP.
Almost half (46.12%) of TAV Airports is owned by France’s Groupe ADP and acquiring Almaty Airport would fit into both companies’ development strategies for Central Asia.
