Hyderabad International Airport, India, has begun a three-month trial of new body-scanner equipment for passenger screening. The airport, which is owned and operated by GMR, has implemented the new technology in line with a new directive from the country’s Bureau of Civil Aviation Security to enhance security at India’s airports.
The body scanners have been installed in the airport’s domestic departure terminal and can be used on a voluntary basis. When the trial has finished, the airport will evaluate the results and if proven successful the body scanners will be installed across the terminal for security check procedures.
According to the airport, the scanners have so far received positive reviews from passengers. Many airports around the world already use this technology for security screening. Airports around India are now in the process of following suit with airports in Pune, Mumbai and Bangalore also trialling body scanners for passenger security screening.
