India’s GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) has inaugurated a breath analyzer examination facility at the Airport Medical Center.
The examinations for alcohol use will be conducted in collaboration with Apollo Hospitals, which runs the Hyderabad Airport Medical Center. They have been requested by the director general of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and will affect staff engaged in aircraft maintenance, air traffic control services, aerodrome operations and ground handling services.
The DGCA requires at least 10% of those employed in these functions to be randomly subjected to breath tests on a daily basis, when they report for duty at the airport. Anyone found to be in breach of the regulations will face disciplinary action.
