Food and beverage outlets at Australia’s Gold Coast Airport have responded to calls from passengers for healthier eating options. Growing traveler demand has seen dining outlets at the airport introduce a wide selection of gluten-free and low-gluten meal options.
Health food outlet NRG Express has dedicated almost its entire range to gluten-free and low-gluten products. The Airport Retail Enterprises-owned outlet’s gluten-free offerings include ham and cheese croissants, Florentine croissants, super-food vegan wraps, and banana bread.
Other outlets, meanwhile, have reported a similar change in customer requests, including Blackstone Café and Bar, where chefs are on hand to accommodate and respond to most dietary requirements or menu alterations. Coffee & Co, Velocity Espresso and Bar and Zoom Café are also offering low-gluten and healthy food options.
According to Gold Coast Airport chief operating officer Marion Charlton, expanded dining options for passengers had become an increasing focus for terminal outlets.
“Our retail partners are doing everything they can to respond to the many and varied dietary requirements of our customers,” she said. “Today, you can get everything from specially prepared Keto pods, to gluten-free croissants and bagels, to freshly made gluten-free calamari, stuffed mushrooms and super-charged energy balls – we even offer gluten-free vodka in our fully serviced bar at Blackstone Café and Bar.”
