Chongqing Wushan Airport in Chongqing municipality, China, commenced operations on August 16, its first flight arriving from Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport. The new airport is a category C regional airport with a 3,500m2 (37,670ft2) terminal building and a 2,600m (8,530ft) runway. It has been designed with a target annual capacity of 280,000 passengers, 1,200 tonnes of cargo and 3,333 aircraft movements.
Operated by Chongqing Airport Group, the new airport replaces Wushan Shennufeng Airport.
At 1,770m above sea level, the new facility has already been nicknamed the ‘airport in the clouds’.
