Planning permission has been granted for the new London Aerospace and Technology College at London Biggin Hill Airport.
To be built by Richard Hopkinson Architects at a cost of £11m (US$13.5m), the new facility is a collaboration between LoCate and London South East Colleges, with £6.2m (US$7.6m) of funding provided by the Greater London Authority.
The new 2,100m2 (22,600ft2) space will offer training facilities for aerospace technicians, with specialist workshops and a double-height ‘hangar’ space, which will enable trainees to work on large-scale aircraft components in real-world working conditions.
The college, which is expected to open in September 2020, will be built on an existing brownfield site.
