Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield Airports and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey have announced plans to bring 22 shopping and dining outlets to Terminal B at Newark Liberty International Airport this year.
Covering more than 25,000ft² (2,330m²), the concessions will have a New Jersey feel and flavor. Construction is underway, and two locations – Starbucks and the travel essentials store All You Need – are already operating.
The other brands will continue to open throughout 2019, introducing travelers to three branded sections of the terminal with design elements inspired by New Jersey settings: Jersey Shore boardwalks, Newark’s Ironbound section and a Garden State theme. Retail and concessions operators such as Areas, Canonica, HMS Host, InMotion, Pacific Gateway Concessions and Villa will operate the new locations.
At the heart of the new Newark Liberty Terminal B dining and retail experience is the Jersey by the Shore food hall, where travelers can find popular boardwalk-inspired offerings at Malone’s Fish Market, Little Tony’s Pizzeria and Firehouse Subs. The Budweiser Brewhouse, with its beer garden, is just blocks from Newark’s flagship Anheuser-Busch brewery.
The Boardwalk district of Newark’s Terminal B will bring the Jersey Shore to life, with Newark and northern New Jersey represented by the Ironbound district’s culinary, cultural and artistic features. The Garden State will offer a broad panorama of New Jersey’s best, with fresh, artisanal foods and scenic views of the state’s natural beauty.
The roll-out of the new concessions is part of a Port Authority drive to enhance and expand customer services and options across its facilities, among them Newark Liberty, John F Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport. Other improvements include the addition of unlimited free wi-fi, upgraded restrooms, family-friendly amenities and real-time information on wait times at security and taxi lines at airport terminals across the agency.
In addition to the new retail and food options at Newark Liberty’s Terminal B, other features have been added in a bid to enhance the travel experience, including an interactive New Jersey Hall of Fame exhibit. New state-of-the-art nursing pods are available at all of the Port Authority’s commercial airports, and improvements have been made to ensure better taxi access and ease and improved taxi time management.
The Terminal B concessions program is a key component of the current major redevelopment of Newark Liberty, including the largest design-build project in New Jersey history, the US$2.7bn Terminal One Redevelopment Program.
